So here we are on week whatever of the Corvid-19 “lockdown”. Our governor has extended the stay at home order. It has a different name now, stay at home safer order, or some such thing. And when we go out if we can’t maintain a distance of six feet from others then we have to wear masks. Now, now we have to wear masks. Why not in the beginning? This isn’t a political rant it is more of a what the hell? And I have no issues with our governor. I would not want to be in her shoes.
But, any good farmer knows that you prevent before you repair. You can’t put the cart before the horse or close the barn door after the horse is out. Which made me think of some other farm wisdom that can used in these times or all the time.
Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.
Keep skunks, bankers and lawyers at a distance.
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
A bumble bee is way faster than any tractor.
Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled.
Meanness don’t happen overnight.
Forgive your enemies. It messes with their heads.
Never corner anything meaner than yourself.
You can’t unsay a cruel word.
Every path has a few puddles.
When you wallow with pigs, your bound to get dirty.
The best sermons are lived, not preached.
Don’t judge anyone by their relatives.
What we worry most about usually never happens.
Don’t interfere with something that isn’t bothering you.
When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
Always drink upstream from the pasture.
Saying nothing is sometimes the best answer.
Letting the cat out of the bag is a helluva lot easier than putting it back in.
If you think you have some influence, try ordering someone else’s dog to sit.
Live simple, love generously, care deeply and speak kindly.
And in these times smile and mean it, show it with your eyes…because no one will see it behind your mask otherwise.
